Vanessa Heffington

Psychotherapist: LMFT #125581; LPCC #11189

My journey to becoming a therapist began with a deep curiosity about human behavior and the motivations that drive us. This passion led me to study Psychology at Chico State, Counseling at Sacramento State, and eventually Applied Behavior Analysis at the Florida Institute of Technology.

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work across a multitude of modalities, including clinic settings for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with children aged 2-18, first as a one-to-one technician, then as a clinical supervisor and parent trainer. My experience extends to private practice settings, school-based mental and behavioral health interventions, community mental and behavioral health as a facilitator for youth and their families, and finally, owning my private practice.

I believe in the power of therapy as an effective tool for self-discovery and growth. Behavior, at its core, is driven by our needs, and understanding this is key to making meaningful changes in our lives. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is particularly special to me because it combines the tangible aspects of behavior with the crucial task of evaluating, and then experiencing, our thoughts and emotions. This approach allows us to align ourselves with our values and live our most fulfilling and authentic lives.

When I’m not working, I love spending time outdoors, a passion that began in my childhood during camping trips and ATV rides along the coasts of Oregon and California. Today, I still enjoy camping, and have developed a love for nature walks, boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, golfing, attending live music events, and exploring local farmers markets. Maintaining a healthy work/life balance is important to me, and I make it a priority to get outside at least once a day.

Though I am relatively new to the North Tahoe area, I have quickly fallen in love with this magical place. The stunning landscapes, the endless opportunities to connect with nature, the vibrant local arts scene, and the kindness and authenticity of the residents have all been a balm for my soul. I feel fortunate to call Truckee home and to be part of such a wonderful community.
